I posted to our PCOS Moms list that I needed something formal to wear to my brother's wedding in December 2006. But it also had to be warm and big enough for being 8 months pregnant. Helena responded. Here are her words....

  • 12/07/2006 "I have a black velvet gown that I wore when I was about 8 weeks pregnant with the trips.  I was in maternity clothes full-time by 8-10 weeks, and although this dress isn't a maternity gown, it worked because it was an A-line.  I just checked and it's a 28W.  I bought it that big because I didn't know what size I'd be carrying triplets.  It is short-sleeved, and has a square neckline.  At the corners of the square are two rhinestone pins.  I wore it for a black-tie gala and Andrew wore a tux, so I'm sure it will work for you. You would probably need some sort of wrap/jacket since it is short-sleeved."
  • 12/07/2006 a different email... "The dress is hanging in my closet, gathering dust.  I would love to see someone, anyone, get some use from it.  And to have that someone be a friend ... well, that's what friends are for.  I have no issues whatsoever with having it altered as much as you need it.  My only request is that when you are done with it, you keep it until someone else needs it, than pass it along with these same directions:  Keep the dress until it can be passed to someone else truly in need of it."
  • 12/11/2006 "I mailed the dress today and it will arrive by noon tomorrow, Tuesday, 12/12, guaranteed.  At least that's what the lady at the post office said. Jackie, please be sure to take a photo or two and post them.  I'd love to see it on you."

The dress is so beautiful! Helena was very kind in giving of herself to others.

The first thing I remember most about her was that she was a dedicated mother and 100% focused on her children, their needs, and was an undying advocate for them.  She loved spending time with her kids; reading was an important part of their lives and one of her girls was reading before Kindergarten. (Boy was she proud of that!) I remember that she loved Puff the Magic Dragon and always did her best to expose her three kids to the experiences of a lifetime within her means. Her biggest goal/dream was to see her precious son Jonathan take his first steps. We talked about it a few days after that happened and she was crying and laughing as she recounted this experience.  I remember our late night phone calls and sharing the joys and experiences of motherhood. . . . I will miss hearing her voice at the other end of the phone line.
